Global Church Movement and Africa Region
Married to Joy N. Onen Obwoya
Joy and I have been married since 1975 and the Lord blessed us with 6 biological children and one adopted son. We have been in LMU since 1991 and served in many different portfolios both in Uganda and at the regional office. We see ourselves as called by the Lord to serve those who are serving – minister to ministers (M2M) across denominational and societal divides
I grew up in a Christian environment but lost any semblance of faith when I moved to the city and was influenced by non-Christians school mates. The phrase that best describes my life then onwards was reckless abandon.
On September 23, 1985 while in Kisumu, Kenya I went downtown to enjoy gospel music and planned to hook up with Christian girls. However, the group leader of the team interrupted my plan. He preached about a woman who had been suffering from blood issues for twelve years. She believed that Jesus would heal her if she touched his garment. The man said that whoever did not have Jesus in their life was bleeding and nothing would ever stop it, at that point I decided to commit my life to Jesus Christ.
I spent that night reading the Bible thoroughly enthralled by what I read. Upon returning to Uganda, I sought believers' gatherings for fellowship, growth, and prayers. I became actively involved in my local church and held several leadership responsibilities
I gained ministry skills through the NLTC training and became a Trainer of Trainers in the Jesus Film (JF). I volunteered on the Kampala JF team for a couple of years before joining LMU staff in 1991. In 1995 my wife and I were challenged to join the Area (regional) team and we subsequently moved to Zimbabwe and then South Africa where we served until 2010, returning to Uganda to serve as National Team Leader. We ended the national leadership chapter in 2019 as we handed it over to David and Sarah Wataba but continued with giving leadership to Prayer in Africa Region. We also coordinate the ministry of Unto and the Military Ministry in Uganda. In 2023, the National Leadership assigned us the oversight of the ministry in Northern Uganda, a responsibility we feel honored to carry out.
