My Story

I grew up as a very competitive person both in sports and academics. Not only did I become a national Table Tennis and a national Chess player, but after serving as a chemist in a sugar factory for four years, I also competed in national politics. When I lost, I began to ask questions of purpose. “Why was I born? Where was I heading to?” As I evaluated my gifts and talents, it became clear that God wanted me to be a teacher and a public speaker. While teaching chemistry in a secondary school, I remember coming home drunk. As I staggered home, a Scripture I had read earlier overwhelmed me, namely; “Are you taking God’s kindness, tolerance and patience for granted? Do you not know that God has been kind and patient with you, to lead you to repentance?” Romans 2:4.

I knelt down and cried before God saddened by my taking Him for granted despite His acts of love and kindness. I asked God to save me the following day when I am sober. I did not want to attribute my changed life to the courage alcohol gives. Indeed by God’s providence, the following day, a staff member of LIFE MINISTRY led me to the Lord. He followed me up and discipled me. I began to enjoy my new found life of sharing the gospel. In 1985, I joined LIFE MINISTRY UGANDA where I have been given a platform to teach, to engage in evangelism, and to build leaders. Today, the competition is no longer between me and other people; but it is between who I am, and who I could possibly be.
